National Pension Lawyers Network (NPLN)
The Lawyer Referral Panel is made up of lawyers from around the country who are available to represent workers, retirees, and their families in pension matters on a regular-fee, reduced-fee, and/or pro bono basis. There are approximately 640 attorneys from all 50 states and the District of Columbia on our panel. Our referrals include specialists in claims for benefits in private, nonprofit, and public pension plans addressing the full range of retirement benefits. Some of the lawyers have family law expertise to handle claims involving the division of pensions at divorce. There is no charge for referrals. Learn more.
Pension Assistance List (PAL)
The Pension Assistance List (PAL) is an American Academy of Actuaries program that serves the public. It is intended to provide professional services to consumers who have questions about their pension plans. When a request is received, the PAL coordinator selects an actuary from the PAL volunteer list who has appropriate expertise. The PAL actuary contacts the consumer and offers up to four hours of free help. Soon after the initial contact, the PAL actuary and the consumer each receive a form from the Academy that solicits feedback. The PAL program has been featured in a number of publications, including AARP's Modern Maturity in 2002 and Contingencies magazine in 1999. Learn more.
NARFE Service Centers
NARFE Service Centers of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees are staffed with volunteers from local chapters who can answer questions concerning federal retirement, Federal Employees Health Benefits, Federal Employees Group Life Insurance, Social Security and Medicare. As the information becomes available, the volunteers will be able to explain new issues such as long-term care. These centers can assist retirees in contacting the Office of Personnel Management with changes in records or applications for benefits. NARFE Headquarters Retirement Benefits Service Department provides information to the Service Centers, and is always ready to assist the volunteers if they have questions or problems. Learn more.
