Search at the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation
The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) is the federal agency that insures private-sector pensions. Use the PBGC’s Pension Search database to search for your lost plan if:
- Your plan was offered by a non-governmental employer and was a “defined benefit” pension plan (not a 401k or profit sharing plan); and
- Your plan was terminated on or after July 1, 1974 and is currently administered by the PBGC; or your plan was terminated on or after January 1, 1996 and is currently administered by a third party annuity provider (like an insurance company).
If you think your plan might be with the PBGC, there are two ways to search for it:
Search a list of the plan participants that the PBGC is looking for
Enter your name or the name of your company to see if the PBGC is looking for you.
Search a list of pension plans currently managed by the PBGC
Enter your plan or company name to see if the PBGC has information on your plan.
If you have already searched the PBGC website and are still looking for your plan, or if you wish to skip this step, click NEXT to continue your pension search.
